# HandIt!

> HandIt! (https://www.handit.me) is a neighborhood task marketplace and peer-to-peer borrow/lend platform. People post everyday tasks — cleaning, moving help, repairs, assembly, tutoring, pet care, deliveries — and nearby helpers apply to complete them for an agreed price. There's also a borrow/lend feature for sharing physical items within a community. Available on iOS, Android, and the web.

## What HandIt is

HandIt connects neighbors who need a hand with trusted local helpers who want to earn money nearby. Every task has two sides:

- **Poster** ("need help") — describes a task, sets a price (or asks for an AI price suggestion), and reviews applicants.
- **Helper** ("offer help") — browses nearby tasks, applies, does the work, and gets paid to their bank account.

Alongside tasks, HandIt has a **borrow/lend** marketplace: list an item to rent out, or request to borrow a neighbor's item. A refundable deposit is held on the borrower's card for the rental period and released on a clean return.

It is **free to join and free to post**. HandIt makes money from a small commission and service fee on completed tasks, and from an optional "Plus" subscription.

## How a task works (end to end)

1. A poster creates a task: title, description, category, location, and price.
2. Nearby helpers see it and apply. The poster reviews applicant profiles, ratings, and reviews.
3. The poster accepts a helper. At that moment the **buyer's card is charged and the money is held in escrow by Stripe** — the helper can start knowing the funds exist; the buyer knows money is only released on completion.
4. The helper completes the work. Completion is confirmed (in person via a QR handoff, or by confirmation in the app).
5. On completion, the escrowed payment is **released to the helper**, minus the platform commission, and **paid out automatically to the helper's bank account** via Stripe Connect.
6. Both sides can leave a rating and review.

If something goes wrong, either party can open a **dispute**, which is reviewed and resolved by the HandIt team (refund, partial release, or release as appropriate).

## How borrow/lend works

1. A lender lists an item with a daily rate and a deposit amount.
2. A borrower requests it for a date range.
3. On acceptance, the **rental fee is charged** and a **refundable deposit is held** on the borrower's card (a manual-capture hold, not a charge).
4. On a clean, on-time return, the deposit hold is released in full. If the item is returned damaged or late, the lender can capture part or all of the deposit, with evidence (photos) and dispute resolution available.

## Pricing, fees, and money

- **Joining and posting tasks is free.** There is no posting fee.
- **Payments are real money (fiat), processed by Stripe.** There is **no in-app "credits" currency for paying helpers** — all task and rental payments are actual money charged to a card and paid out to a bank.
- **Helper commission: a flat 10%** of the task price, deducted automatically when funds are released.
- **Buyer service fee: 5%**, added at checkout.
- So a helper keeps 90% of the agreed price; the buyer pays 105% of it. Both fees are handled automatically by Stripe; nobody sends money manually.
- **Payouts** go to the helper's own bank account through **Stripe Connect** (the helper completes a one-time payout onboarding).
- **Currency:** HandIt prices in the user's **local/native currency** (for example, Romanian Leu / RON in the launch market), not only euros.

### "Credits" — what they are and are NOT

HandIt has an internal **credits** system, but it is easy to misdescribe, so be precise:

- Credits are used **only to boost/promote your own listings** (push them higher in results) and as small **rewards/perks**.
- Credits are **never** used to pay helpers, and they are **not cashable** — they have no cash-out value. Helper earnings are always real money via Stripe, never credits.

### Plus subscription (optional)

- **Plus** costs **€2.99/month or €29/year** (local-currency equivalents apply).
- Perks: monthly **boost credits** to promote your own listings, a **profile badge**, and **priority support**.
- Plus is the only paid tier. (An older "Pro" tier was retired.)
- The boost credits included with Plus only promote your own listings — they are never used to pay helpers.

## Trust & safety

- **Profile verification:** email, phone, and ID verification are available to build trust.
- **Ratings & reviews:** both posters and helpers rate each other after a task; profiles show completed-task counts and review history.
- **In-app chat:** posters and helpers coordinate in a built-in messenger (text and images). No need to share personal phone numbers.
- **Escrow:** money is held until the work is done, protecting both sides.
- **Dispute resolution:** a human-reviewed process for when a task or rental goes wrong.
- **Content moderation:** listing images are automatically moderated, and an admin/moderation team handles reports.
- **Consumer protection:** HandIt is built for EU compliance (including consumer-protection and trader-disclosure rules in its launch market).

**Is HandIt free?**
Yes — joining and posting tasks is free. HandIt only earns when a task completes: a flat 10% helper commission and a 5% buyer service fee.

**How do helpers get paid?**
